Welcome to Manchester Safeguarding Partnership online learning offer

The Manchester Safeguarding Partnership (MSP) is made up of organisations that work together to safeguard and promote the welfare of adults, children, young people and their families across the city of Manchester.

Safeguarding is everyone’s business.

Safeguarding Adults

Safeguarding means protecting an adult’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. It is about working together to support people to make decisions about the risks they face in their own lives, and protecting those who lack the capacity to make these decisions.

Safeguarding Children and Young People

Safeguarding means protecting a child’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. It is about working together to support children and young people to make decisions about the risks they face in their own lives, and protecting those who lack the capacity to make these decisions.

Online courses are made available by the Manchester Safeguarding Partnership by commissioning our online partner Virtual College (VC). Please only apply for an online course if you are currently working with children and/or their families, or adults in Manchester (the geographical area covered by Manchester Local Authority). If you work in Greater Manchester or outside Manchester please contact your local Safeguarding Partnership to be signposted to your local safeguarding training/learning and development provision.

What safeguarding level are VC online courses?

Virtual College regularly updates and develops online courses alongside Subject Matter Experts to ensure they reflect relevant legislation and/or learning from reviews etc. All courses are matched against governing guidance where appropriate, however, no levels are attributed and if you need a specific level of training please contact your own agency or organisation for guidance.

Please note that there is a charge of £25 + VAT if you do not complete an online course within 4 weeks of requesting it. It is recommended that you select one course at a time to avoid your organisation being charged for non-completion of courses.

Do you need to complete a basic safeguarding course?

The `Awareness of Child Abuse and Neglect`. This course is suitable for everyone who works directly with children and young people, including frontline professionals. This course covers a variety of child protection and safeguarding children issues and is suitable for anyone who regularly comes into contact with children or who may be asked to contribute to the assessment of children in need. The course has been updated to include multi-agency cooperation. There are also refresher versions of this course available.

Do you want to ensure your staff have completed Safeguarding Training?

Each agency/organisation can nominate a representative to be set up as a Department Monitor - this role will give them access to all learners’ progress within your organisation and will allow you to monitor and ensure all staff have completed courses relevant to their role and within the given timescales. If your agency would like to nominate a Department Monitor please contact MSP by emailing: manchestersafeguardingpartnership@manchester.gov.uk
